Jonathan Gidney has won the Welsh Open Youths Championship at The Vale of Llangollen. With scores of 71,70,66 & 67 (14 under par) he won by 7 shots. Fantastic result Jonathan and congratulations from everyone at Church Stretton Golf Club.

Congratulations to Mark Predice on winning the Phillipps Bowl with a score of nett 58 playing off a handicap of 11. This should also get Mark into The Club Championship. Mark will also qualify to play in The PGA National Pro Am at Little Aston Golf Club on Monday 9th June alongside Club Professional James Townsend. Well done Mark from everyone at the club.

16-05-2008 - Brabazon Trophy - Jonathan Gidney

Jonathan is playing in The Brabazon Trophy at Trevose GC (English Amateur Strokeplay). He scored 67 to qualify into the tournament and in his 1st Round on Friday 16th May he scored 68 and is in 10th position. The second round was abandoned for the day. In the 3rd Round he scored 72 and in the final round he shot 69 to finish in 11th position. Excellent perrformance Jonathan from everyone at the club.

14-05-2008 - Isabel Green - 2008 Ladies County Champion

Congratulations to Isabel Green on winning The County Matchplay Championship at Wrekin Golf Club. Isabel played 110 holes in 3 days to win the title. Isabel will now have pride of place on our Honour Boards as a County Champion along side Jim Black who won the Mens Championship in 1970. Well done from everybody at the club, we are very proud of you.

Congratulations to Paul Carter & Paul Taylor who won The International Pairs Qualifier on Sunday 13th April with a score of 41(Back 9 of 22). The official opening of the re-design to the Golf Shop will be held on Saturday 19th April at 11.00am by The Club Captain Keith Morris . Please join James Townsend for a Glass of Wine and some Cheese & Biscuits. There will be lots of very special offers on for that weekend and the remainder of April. James looks forward to showing you the new look shop.

15-03-2008 - The Pond on the 11th Hole is not GUR but has been put back as a Water Hazard

The National Trust is working to eradicate New Zealand Pygmyweed, an invasive,non-native water plant that has been found in this pond (11th Hole). The tarpaulins covering the pond should shade out and kill the weed and is reported to be the most effective non-chemical means of control. It may however take around six months. We originally made this pond GUR, but the tarpaulin is below the water level so this will still be classed as a water hazard.

08-03-2008 - Ladies Night for Breakthrough Breast Cancer

The Ladies night which was held at the clubhouse on Friday 7th March was a superb evening, enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Jane Wilde and her team for organising the night and providing the food. The Ladies have raised over £1250 for BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER. Well done from everyone at the club.

1st Alliance at Wrekin - Jon Gidney, Glyn Hughes, Paul Simmonds & James Townsend finished 2nd with a score of 77pts.

2nd Alliance at Mile End - Jon Gidney, Glyn Hughes, Nick Kelly & Keith Williams finished 2nd with a score of 90pts.

3rd Alliance at Kington - Jon Gidney, Glyn Hughes, Paul Simmonds & James Townsend Won with a score of 85pts.

6th Alliance at Chesterton Valley - Jon Gidney, Glyn Hughes, Keith Williams & James Townsend finished 2nd with a score 84 pts.

Church Stretton are currently 2nd with 45pts in The Alliance Shield after 6 events.In the Amateur Competition Jon finished 1st with 39pts, Glyn was 2nd with 37pts and Keith was 3rd with 35pts.

9th Alliance at Ludlow - Jon Gidney had the best Gross score out of all the Pro's and Amateur's with a score of 38pts. Well done Jon. After 9 Alliances Church Stretton are in 4th position in the team stansings.

25-11-2007 - Ladies finish 4th in Spain

The Ladies Mail on Sunday team finished 4th in Spain. In the Semi Finals they lost a close match 3-2 against Meon Valley. Then in the 3rd & 4th place play off against Mere G&CC they lost 4-1. 4th out of over 3,000 clubs is a tremendous achievment. From everyone at the club we are so proud of you all.

19-10-2007 - Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes Final

Congratulation to Isabel Green & Louise Beaumont. They played in the UK Finals of The Daily Mail Foursomes at the Forest of Arden. On Monday they played in the last 16 and having won the proceeded to the quarter finals in the afternoon. Having also won that they went into the semi-final on Tuesday morning which they also won. The final was held in the afternoon and unfortunately they lost on the 17th. What they have done is an amazing achievement not only for themselves but also the club. Well done from us all at the club.
