THE COURSE

CourseThe course is relatively short at just over 5,000 yards, but never easy. Many greens are raised or built into the side of a hill, which means you need to be accurate in direction and length. The 1st is a par 3 to start off, which is described by many to be the hardest starting hole to par in the county with a bank in front of the green and out of bounds to the right. The 2nd, 7th and 9th are uphill with the 15th steeply downhill. Some holes can be driven, for example the 16th, but beware, go off line and you are out of bounds.

It is a course you will never get tired of playing, as each hole is unique. It always retains your interest no matter how many times you return. The only holes, which are vaguely parallel, are the 13th and 14th, but the 13th is a dogleg and the 14th is straight. You will find the turf delightful to play from as the ball always "sits up" and the course never suffers from muddy conditions. The wind can be a problem, but it makes the thought you put into each shot even more challenging. In the summer the ferns make some holes feel narrow (for example the 9th). In the winter you have greater room for error.

The courseThe greens are consistent and play well throughout the year. The borrows are subtle and can be misleading, for example, the 12th (It's difficult to decide whether the green slopes away from the hill or towards it). We have removed the few tee mats completely and now play from grass tees all year round. On which other course can you say that? The drainage is so good that we never close through wet weather and there are never any temporary tees or greens during the winter months.

And if your golf is going badly you can always admire the views.
